Amazing video of an impala that was chased into the muddy water by lions. While struggling to get away, a hippopotamus came and killed the impala.
The clip, shot by a tour guide at South Africa’s notorious Kruger National Park, begins showing a lion staring out longingly into the middle of a watering hole.
As the camera zooms out, the body of a stranded impala can be seen stuck in the thick mud. Seconds later an enormous hippo cruises into view accompanied by one of its offspring – meaning bad news for the stricken impala.
Fiercely protective of their young and surprisingly dangerous – killing around 500 people in Africa every year – the hippo immediately launches into a murderous assault on the poor creature. It grabs the impala by the neck before tossing it ruthlessly through the air like a rag doll.
The distressing incident lasts for a little over a minute before the helpless impala lays motionless in the mud. Millions have seen the clip since it was posted on YouTube, with viewers on social media site Reddit recirculating the video in recent weeks.
